How Eden Jewellery Is Made

At Eden, every piece of jewellery tells a story—of restoration, dignity, and hope. Each item is handcrafted by women who have experienced and overcome human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Through full-time employment in our safe, trauma-informed jewellery workshops, these women are empowered to build new futures for themselves and their families.

But our commitment to care doesn’t end with our people—it extends to the materials and methods we use.

High-Quality, Safe Materials

Most of our jewellery is crafted using 316L medical-grade stainless steel, known for its exceptional strength, hypoallergenic properties, and resistance to tarnishing or rust. It’s the same grade of stainless steel used in surgical instruments—making it ideal for sensitive skin and long-term wear.

We also use brass and sterling silver in select pieces, offering variety in finish and feel. All of our jewellery is nickel-, lead-, and cadmium-free, and we test regularly to ensure it stays that way.

Long-Lasting, Eco-Friendly Plating

Our pieces are plated with 18K yellow, rose, or white gold using a process called vacuum plating, also known as PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition). Compared to traditional electroplating, PVD plating:

• Creates a stronger, more durable bond between metal and coating

• Extends the life of your jewellery, helping it stay vibrant and scratch-resistant

• Produces less chemical waste, making it more environmentally responsible

Ethical and Responsible Sourcing

We source the majority of our metals and findings from ethically-run factories in China, with whom we maintain close, long-standing relationships. We visit regularly to ensure ethical labor practices and to reinforce our shared commitment to Eden’s mission.

Other specialty materials—like clay, beads, and glass—are sourced from Europe or Japan, while cotton, thread, and all packaging are produced locally in Myanmar, supporting the communities where our beneficiaries live and work.
